Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October 1964 is an American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice president and is the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. She is a senator and former US senator who represents California. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then hired by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco's district attorney. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General of California and then re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California from 2017-2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election and became the second African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and legalization of cannabis, a path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She is well-known for the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
